This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total catastrophe. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to work. At this point, it feels like we're doomed. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a nightmare of epic proportions.
Dude, This Is Pathetic Yet Somehow Entertaining
Sometimes you encounter situations so horrifically bad that you can't help but smile. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer magnitude of unadulterated absurdity and just throws its hands up, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping strategy.
But then, you realize that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you felt morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.

Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a case of terrible hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was dashing out the door, I trippedon and landed all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was totally late for a very important appointment.
I arrived. My {boss|friend|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was a hopeless situation.
The rest of the here day was an absolute nightmare. Everything. I stay awake.
By the time I reached my destination, I was utterly defeated. This day, this atrocious day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
